Box office report: 'Madagascar 3' earns $35.5M, more than 'Rock of Ages' and 'That's My Boy' combined

A couple of high-profile openers couldn’t force the animals of Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted into their cages. The animated comedy topped the box office once again this weekend, while Rock of Ages and That’s My Boy delivered majorly disappointing debuts.

Dreamworks’ $145 million effort Madagascar 3 roared a second time following its $60.3 million start. The CG-animated film dipped 41 percent to $35.5 million this frame, which was better than the second weekend decline of its predecessor, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, which fell by 45 percent and had earned a slightly softer $116.9 million at the same point in its run.

LA: Lady Gaga retaliates against Madonna’s recent statement that the young pop star ripped off Queen of Pop’s single Express Yourself  for her Born This Way.

Lady Gaga is not happy with the way the 53-year-old singer has been taking jibes at her. In a rather abrupt break during her concert in Auckland, New Zealand last Thursday, she ranted in front of her fans about what appeared to be an indirect reply to Madonna.

“It sometimes makes people feel better about themselves to put other people down or make fun of them or maybe make mockery of their work. And that doesn’t make me feel good at all. That just makes me feel like I’m not being a good human being… I don’t even want to fight back because it’s more important to me to keep writing music,” Gaga said in the middle of her performance of Hair.

“Because that’s really all I care about, is the music… things are really different than they were 25 years ago, and that’s what makes Born This Way so relevant for me. We’re socially in a different place and it’s OK, we don’t have to all slice and hate each other anymore,” she added.

Recently, Madonna mashed up Gaga’s hit single ‘Born This Way‘ with her own 1989 song Express Yourself during the Tel Aviv concert of her MDNA tour. At the end of the performance, she shouted to her fans, She’s not me!,
without mentioning who her target was.

Things were not so bad between the two stars. Initially, Madonna was happy with Gaga’s claims that she inspired her but their friendship turned sour after ‘Born this way‘ release.

Asked about her thoughts on the song, Madonna had said, “I thought it was reductive. I thought ‘What a wonderful way to redo my song.’ I mean, I recognized the chord changes. I thought it was… interesting.”

Addressing the controversy, Gaga had said, “The only similarities are the chord progression. Just because I’m the first artist in 25 years to think of putting it on Top 40 radio, it doesn’t mean I’m a plagiarist, it means that I’m smart.”

Police recover Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose's stolen jewellery

Police have arrested a woman in connection with a robbery which saw over $200,000 worth of jewellery stolen from Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose in Paris last night (June 5).

The singer was at a private gathering after his band's show at the French capital's Bercy Stadium when the theft of three gold-and-diamond necklaces occurred.

The woman, a model, returned the necklaces today (June 6) to police and was subsequently arrested, reports AFP. She claims not to know how she ended up leaving with the jewellery.

According to a spokesman for the band, it did not appear that Rose was wearing the necklaces at the time. He also said that Axl was said to be "fuming" after the theft.

Guns N' Roses completed their troubled UK arena tour on Friday (June 1), ending their run of shows on a sour note after being pelted with money and pint glasses. As well as this, the band have drawn intense criticism for their frequent late starts, often taking to the stage after 11pm.

As previously reported by NME, fans who turned out for the gigs wearing clothes bearing the image of the band's former guitarist were turned away by security - and were only allowed in after removing the offending item of clothing.

The band are touring across Europe for the next two weeks and are scheduled to play in Moenchengladbach, Germany, on Friday (June 8).

Axl Rose was robbed $200,000

PARIS (AP) — Police say Guns N' Roses front man Axl Rose was robbed of three gold-and-diamond necklaces worth some $200,000 after the hard rock band's concert in Paris.

A Paris police spokesman said Wednesday that the lead singer of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-inducted band was fuming after the theft during a private gathering after the band's show at Bercy stadium the previous night.

Judicial police have opened an investigation but the spokesman said it didn't appear Rose was wearing the necklaces at the time. The spokesman spoke on condition of anonymity because of office policy.

The group's website says they are scheduled to play in Moenchengladbach, Germany, on Friday before returning to France as part of a tour of Europe and Israel that runs through July 22.

NBC New Show Hannibal Lecter Casting

Former Bond villain Mads Mikkelsen has been cast as Hannibal Lecter in NBC's upcoming series, Hannibal.

The show is a contemporary thriller featuring characters from Thomas Harris' bestselling Red Dragon novel. The FBI agent Will Graham is played by Hugh Dancy.

The series is written and executive-produced by Pushing Daisies' Bryan Fuller.

The Hannibal Lecter character was made famous by Anthony Hopkins, who won an Oscar for his portrayal in 1991's The Silence of the Lambs. He reprised the role in 2001's Hannibal and 2002's Red Dragon.
