Chechen's infamous terrorist act is the Moscow theater hostage crisis (Dubrovka Theater) on 23 October 2002 involving nearly 50 armed Chechens and 900 hostages, and resulted in a large death toll mostly due to the effects of an aerosol anesthetic pumped through the building by Russian special forces to render those inside unconscious.
